Surviving Another Summer: A Casual Farm Narrative About the Joys of Fall

As the hot summer days slowly fade away on our farm, a new season emerges with crisp mornings and vibrant leaves painting the landscape in hues of gold and red. Fall brings a myriad of changes, each a reminder of the cyclical nature of farm life. Join me on a casual journey through the joys of fall as we reflect on the passing summer and embrace what lies ahead.

Farm in Fall

Embracing Change

The shift to fall is not just a change in weather; it's a change in mindset. The end of summer marks the beginning of a period where nature slows down, giving us a moment to catch our breath. The leaves fall from the trees, creating a soft carpet under our feet as we wander through the orchards.

Garden Harvests and Freezers full

As winter approaches, our gardens, previously teeming with life, present a final yield. Ripe tomatoes, rows of squashes and pumpkins, and the remaining peppers dangling from the vines signify the plentiful autumn harvest, reflecting the dedication we invested during the warmer seasons. The turkeys have been raised and prepared, filling our freezers and overflowing the pantry with canned veggies

School Starting and New Beginnings

For many of us, fall means the start of a new school year. The farm kids eagerly gather their supplies, ready to embark on a journey of learning and growth. The school bus rumbling down our country road signals a return to routine and structure after the carefree days of summer.

Hay in the Barn

As the days grow shorter, we work tirelessly to stockpile hay for the coming winter. Bales are stacked high in the barn, ensuring our animals will have more than enough to eat when the snow blankets the fields. The scent of freshly cut hay fills the air, a comforting reminder of our preparedness.

Gratitude and Reflection

With fall comes a sense of gratitude for all that we have accomplished. The challenges and triumphs of another summer are behind us, and we are thankful for the lessons learned and memories made. We gather around the table, sharing stories and laughter as we look forward to the season ahead.
